The Good, Bad and the Ugly of hiring a car on the Costa Blanca

We're not coming over in the Summer, Caroline. I just checked out the prices to give forum users a guide. BTW €536 is only the start. What about the fuel, insurance etc. To make things worse DYS is plastered with adverts proclaiming cheaper car hire.

I don't think so!!!

See you soon - Easter?

Hope so Bob - we're out 10-17th. Hope to catch up with you then - maybe we could get a gathering at the Giant Paella on the Sunday 11th?

car hire will continue to be expensive, its nothing to do with the time of the year, rather the shortage of cars, hire firms have always brought new/ extra cars on a kind of extended creddit from the banks, but with the current economic crisis they have withdrawn this faclity, hennce shortage of cars means higher prices . i have used hirecars in spain a few times, they do full empty (for fuel) or just about any combination, no extra charges for dropping off at a different location (i.e collect at Murcia drop at alicante)
free upgrade if booked for 28days, look on there website or phone Gordon Day on 07785230907 (UK)
in my mind i live in san miguel de salinas for life not just a week, its my wallet that spoils it

Just returned from a week skiing in Andorra, flew into Barcelona, so needed a car for the 9 days we away. As usual, spend hours online checking prices ended up with Solmar via some agent call Black & White in Javea (who were very good) they quoted 204 euro for 9 days, Focus Estate. Having read some of the prices on here thought good deal.

On arrival at the airport, the box is closed, go to parking area, find Solmar. Goes downhill, where are you staying in Spain, told them at hotel Friday before driving up to Andorra for 7 nights, then back to Barca for two nights. They charge me extra for travel to Andorra, understandable, but she said she had to charge for all 9 days as hse did not know when we would be back in Spain, plus as going to another Country, we HAD to have additional insurance, so the 204 euro ended up at 486 euro, but she did give me 75 euro back for the 55 ltrs of fuel they charge for at 1.01 euro per ltr

They even charge you for collecting it at the airport

I think I will set up renting cars

I had a result this week - I was frantically trying to find my Rental Voucher in my inbox to print off for this weekend, to suddenly realising that our pc crashed 6 weeks ago and we lost everything in the inbox - so I went on the DYS website to retrieve all bookings for this year with them, in order to download another voucher. While I was on the website I thought I'd just put in another quote - thinking it would be expensive with only 3 days notice, I was amazed that the quote was 60 euros cheaper for the weeks hire of a Berlingo (there are 5 of us) - so I've downloaded the voucher and cancelled the earlier booking - result!!
